Obituary

On July 10, 2023, heaven became a little brighter with the arrival of Dorothy Ann Raby. She most certainly began right away maintaining the perfect polish on those streets of gold and of course, organizing the mansion that her Lord had long prepared for her appearance. Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at the First Baptist Church in Peculiar, MO.   Interment  in the Peculiar Cemetery,  Peculiar, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church - Peculiar or MO Palliative and Hospice Care.

Dorothy was born April 25, 1931 to Ray and Mayme (Lawson) Lee in Sparta, MO, and was the middle of three daughters. She graduated from Sparta High School and married the love of her life, Robert Louis Raby on October 4, 1950. They were married for 42 years before his passing in 1992 and had two children.

During her lifetime, she had various places of employment in addition to being "mom". A few of them included: Western Electric, US Postal Service, Peculiar Elementary School "lunch lady" and in her spare time deep-cleaning homes for some of her friends and "referrals of friends". After retirement from working at the school, she began volunteering at the Peculiar Thrift Store along with some of her friends and met many additional friends through her time there. She also worked on various projects at her beloved church, First Baptist Church of Peculiar.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sisters: Wilda Hoffmann and Edith Hutchinson; and a step-grandson, Mike Carter. She is survived by her son, Ed Raby of Kansas City, MO; her daughter, Debbie Raby, of Raymore, MO; one step-daughter, Jonna Gibson, of Ozark, MO; grandson, Mark (Kelly) Raby, of Raymore, MO; twin great-grandsons, Johnathon and Conner Raby; great-granddaughter, Payton Raby; step-granddaughter, Cathy Barrett; step-great-grandsons: Patrick, Jeremy, and Jimmy; nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, her granddog, Bella; and many, many friends.
