Obituary

Donald Edward Vogt, 80, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2015 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.

Don was born January 3, 1935 in Esmond, South Dakota, the son of Michael J. and Ethel (Knowles) Vogt. He attended Menahga, Minnesota High School. He later received a degree from Mesa Community College with a degree in psychology. Don married Lorraine Hasbargen June 20, 1953 in Menahga, Minnesota on her family's farm. They lived in Klickitat, Washington where he worked for J. Niels Lumber Company as a crane operator. He delighted his family and friends with his woodworking skills creating heirlooms that will be treasured and passed down for generations. After his retirement in 1968 the family lived in Gilbert, Chandler and Higley, Arizona. After Lorraine retired they spent their active retirement years in Yuma, Arizona and Park Rapids, Minnesota. He and Lorraine moved to Harrisonville in 2012. Don was a member of the Amazing Grace Lutheran Church in Pleasant Hill, Missouri.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Debra Jean Hecht, two brothers, Frank Vogt and Howard Vogt, three sisters, Eileen Graham, LaVerna Jacobson, Margret Vogt, nieces, Brenda Waite and Susanne Peet and nephew, Robert Jacobson. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, of the home; one son, Rodney E. Vogt (Sharon), Royce City, Texas; son-in-law, Ken Hecht, Racine, Wisconsin; two daughters, Elaine M. Fordyce (Paul), Drexel, Missouri and Carla J. Carter (Michael), Windsor, Missouri; one sister, Donna Rudy (Edgar), Huron, South Dakota; 12 grandchildren, Stan Vanover, Mike Vanover, Tori Kemper, LeAnn Fordyce, Stacey Watring, Tamara Drenon, Michael Phillips, Misty Williams, Daniel Hecht, Angela Reese, Cheryl Wilhelmsen and Josh Rainwater; and 22 great-grandchildren, Sarina, Levi, Kody, Jackson, Maverick, Kimber, Jorden, Ulrich, Camilla, Nolan, Jahiem, Jaren, Madison, Jonathan, Lucy, Steven, Hailey, Jordan, Naizak, Evander, Mahto, and Tempest.
