Donald Greene Murphy Sr., 89, of Lake Barrington, Illinois, passed away on January 25, 2022, after a brief illness at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Lake Barrington, Illinois. A graveside service was held Thursday, June 9, 2022 at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Creighton, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations in Don's memory can be made to Messiah Lutheran Church in Wauconda, Illinois.

Don was born on March 26, 1932, to Thomas Jefferson and Mabel Greene Murphy in Chicago, Illinois. After the death of his father, Don and his mother, Mabel, and his beloved sister, Irene, moved to Kansas City, Missouri, in 1941. At 16, Don graduated from West High School and by 17, convinced his mother to sign a waiver that would allow him to enlist in the United States Navy. Don served as a Petty Officer and Dental Technician on the USS Salem during the Korean war prior to his honorable discharge on January 24, 1955. While in the Navy, Don toured the Mediterranean, boiling lobsters in the autoclave and throwing the dental gold and the Commander's scuba gear overboard because the Commander said, "get rid of everything in here".

In 1955, Don met the love of his life, Judith Ann Sieker, and they were married February 15, 1957. They were looking forward to their 65th wedding Anniversary this February. Don and Judy spent the early part of their marriage in Kansas City, Missouri, before returning to the Chicago area and, in 1976, settling in Lake Barrington, Illinois, a place they have called home since then.

A true renaissance man, Don was an entrepreneur, inventor, artist, Stephen Minister, Free Mason, beekeeper, and, above all else, devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Don had the pleasure of living in the same neighborhood as his children and grandchildren for the past 11 years, surrounded by family every Sunday for 'Sunday Dinner'. His laughter, stories, and love of salt will be sorely missed.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Jefferson and Mable Murphy; his beloved older sister, Irene (Paul) Klein; and many aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife, Judith Ann (Sieker) Murphy; his children: Donald G. Murphy Jr. and Brenna I. (Murphy) Prokup and husband, Ronald; grandchildren: Maren Lucille, Ronald "Alden", and Kaitlyn Rose Prokup, all of Lake Barrington, Illinois; nephews: Phillip Klein of Indianapolis, IN, and Peter Klein of Alpharetta, GA; in-laws: William & Louise Sieker of Liberty, MO, and Norma Kay (Sieker) & Robert Rossato of Plano, TX.
