Obituary

Donald Loyd Horn, 87, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Friday, September 16, 2016 at Golden Years Care Center in Harrisonville. Funeral services will be held at 1:0 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with visitation from 12:00-1:00. Burial, with military honors, will be at Mt. Washington Cemetery in Independence, Missouri.

Don was born in Fullerton, Nebraska on October 5th, 1928 the son of Walter and Gertrude (Kane) Horn. Don was a graduate of Northeast High School in Kansas City. After working for several years, he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951. In the Air Force he worked in Crypto and Intelligence and retired as a Tech Sergeant in 1971 after 22 years of service. Don owned and operated Horn Office Supply & Printing in Lee's Summit and Harrisonville, Missouri after retiring from the military.

Don liked to farm and owned a farm in the area for a number of years. He also liked to dance and play cards with friends. Don had a great sense of humor and enjoyed playing jokes on people. Don was always working on a project of some sort. One of his favorite ones was fully restoring a 1950 Dodge pickup.


He married Beulah May (Oliphant) Rowland on June 20, 1997 in Butler, Missouri. He attended Harrisonville First Baptist Church.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Eileen, four brothers, Kenneth, Dale, Jim and Alvin, and his two sons, Darrel and Daniel. He is survived by his wife, Beulah Horn of Harrisonville; three sisters, Ruby Pittman, Lola Martz, and Louise Williams, along with numerous other relatives and a host of friends, including his John Deere tractor.
