Donald "Don" Dean Johnson, 83, Lee's Summit, Missouri, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at St. Luke's East Hospital in Lee's Summit. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Adrian Christian Church in Adrian, Missouri with visitation from 10:00-11:00 at the church. Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Adrian Athletic Department, c/o Adrian High School, in honor of "Don Johnson, Class of 1949". He was an avid Youth Sports Fan.
Don was born January 5, 1931, to Lynwood and Lorene (Marshall) Johnson in Adrian, Missouri. After graduating from Adrian School, he worked for Kansas City Southern Railroad until he was drafted into the US Army in April 1952. After being discharged from the Army in 1954, he used the GI Bill to complete Carpenter's Training in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the owner of a Construction Company and worked in residential construction for most of his life. After retiring from construction, Don worked as co-owner of A&A/MoJo's Backflow Services with his son Monte.
On June 6, 1954, Don married Wilma "Arlene" Jones in Kansas City, Missouri at the Beaumont Baptist Church. Don and Arlene celebrated 59 years and 11 months of marriage before his passing. They have three children, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Leland Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Arlene of the home; one brother, Larry Johnson and wife, Francine of Lee's Summit, MO; three sisters, Jeweldine Smith of Adrian, MO, Rita Scott of Adrian, MO and Linda Zelazny and husband, Gerald of Sierra Vista, AZ; three children, Ron Johnson of Fayetteville, AR, Cheryl (Johnson) Neeley and husband, Mark of Independence, MO, Monte Johnson and wife, Charlotte of Adrian, MO; eight grandchildren, LaChae, Luke, Nicole, Eileen, Samantha, Ashley, Anson (Donald) and Abbie; five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Jonathan, Colin, Hayden and Evangeline. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
