Retired Marine Gunnery Sergeant Donald G. Colbey, 68, Harrisonville, MO, died Thursday, August 16, 2018 in Butler, MO.  Funeral services were    Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO.   Burial  in Parker Cemetery, Creighton, MO.

Don was born August 19, 1949 in DuBois, PA, the son of Donald and Ruth (Webb) Colbey.  He grew up in Penfield, PA and was a 1967 graduate of DuBois Area High School.  While in high school, he was undefeated on the 1966-67 wrestling team.  Don received an associate's degree from college in the state of Washington.

He joined the U.S. Marines and served two tours in Vietnam and also served in Beirut and Grenada.  He retired as a Gunnery Sergeant from the U. S. Marines in 1992. After retiring he worked for MODOT in Lee's Summit in sign maintenance.

Don was a member of the Harrisonville Elks, the Harrisonville VFW 4409, was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 720, current Post Commander AMVETS in Garden City and a member of the Beirut Veterans Association.

He is survived by a sister, Ruth Ann Gregori (Louis), Penfield, PA and a brother, Jeffrey Colbey (Gena), all of Penfield, PA; two daughters, Tonya and Vanessa; three grandchildren; nieces, nephews.  Colbey also had so many friends that were his chosen family that we could not possibly list them all.  Bill Ladd and Donald Colbey were not only best friends but brothers.
