Obituary

Don Rhoads, 79, of Belton, Missouri died Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, MO.  Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at the West Line Christian Church in West Line, MO with burial at the Lebanon Cemetery in Lebanon, MO.  Memorial contributions may be made to West Line Christian Church.

Don was born April 27, 1938 in Lebanon, MO, the son of George Lester and Evelyn (Cameron) Rhoads.  He was a 1956 graduate of Lebanon High School.  Don married Carolyn Johnson on September 10, 1950.  They lived in Kansas City, MO before moving to Pleasant Hill, MO in 1971.  After Carolyn's death in 1995, Don married Nancy C. (Fletcher) Messmer on October 10, 1996. They moved to Belton, in 1996.

Don worked as a district manager for Butternut Bakery for 30 years and had also worked for Interstate Bakery.  He raised cattle and was a member of the Missouri Cattlemen's Association and the National Cattlemen's Beef Association.  Don was a member of West Line Christian Church in West Line, MO.

Don enjoyed being outdoors, working on the farm and gardening, and working with his cattle and his horses.  He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons.  Don also enjoyed weekly breakfasts with the ROMEO men (Retired Old Men Eating Out), with their wives, CEO (Cooks Eating Out), sitting in the next room!

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Carolyn Johnson Rhoads in 1995, step-daughter, Annette Lela Messmer, son-in-law, Rex Miller, two brothers, Lester Rhoads and Sherrill Rhoads, one grandchild, Josh Miller and one great-grandchild, Ashton Miller.  He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of the home; daughter, Deana Miller, Creighton, MO; sons, Russell Rhoads (Teresa), Warsaw, MO and Jody Rhoads (Maryann Duffey), Raymore, MO; stepsons, Jake Messmer, Cleveland, MO and Ben Messmer, Los Angeles, CA; one sister, Mary Evelyn Franklin (Dale), Shawnee, KS; 5 grandchildren, Daniel Talamonte (Katy), Travis Miller, Lyndsey Miller, Olivia Westerfield (Forrest), and Sadie Messmer; 14 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Don was a loving father and husband. He was always willing to help others and was a friend to many. He will be missed.
