Deborah "Debbie" Claralea Anders, 68, of Peculiar, MO, passed away on Friday , January 6, 2023 at her home in Peculiar. Graveside services were held Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at the Peculiar Cemetery, Peculiar, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Wayside Waifs.

Debbie was born February 14, 1954 to Doyle and Delores (Nave) Albright in Neosho, MO. She attended school in Belton and later Grandview, MO, graduating with the class of 1972. There she met her first husband, Steven Quarles, and they made their home in Peculiar, MO. She worked for Peculiar Elementary in the cafeteria when her kids were young so she could be off when the kids were out of school. She then married James Anders in 1983, and moved to Belton for a short time.

The bulk of her work life consisted of planting, growing, and selling plants and trees. She spent 12 years with Rosehill Gardens, then took a job with Suburban Lawn & Garden where her coworkers became like family. Debbie had the greenest thumb, known for her beautiful landscape and knowledge of potting up plants. She was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2021 and fought through several chemo treatments with her normal grit and fierce independence.

She is preceded in death by her parents and infant sibling, Darlene. She is survived by her four children: Joslyn Quarles (Darold Goudeau) Raytown, MO; Michael Quarles (Andrea Steele) Belton, MO; Shannon Thomas (James) Kansas City, MO; and Journey Anders of Kansas City, MO. She also leaves behind three grandchildren with the nicknames she gave them, Destiny "Sweet Pea" Quarles (22), Marcellus "Little Mahomes" Goudeau (14), and Juniper "Sweet Baby J" Thomas (5); four younger siblings: Darcey, Denise, Darla, and David; countless nieces and nephews; a host of cousins; and her Pomeranian, Dixie.
