DAVID F. LESTER, 85 of Belton, MO died Saturday, July 26, 2008 at the Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, MO. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, August 2, 2008 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville, MO. Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 PM Saturday, August 2, 2008 at the chapel. Burial in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. David was born May 23, 1923 in Harrisonville, MO, the son of George Franklin and Susan Arcadie (Badgley) Lester. He was a 1940 graduate of Harrisonville High School. He married Stella Jane Nash on August 17, 1947 at the Boone Presbyterian Church in Kansas City. David was a WWII Army veteran with the 754th Tank Battalion. David had lived in Collins, MO for 20 years before moving to Kansas City.
David was a member and an Elder of the First Bible Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, MO. He was previously a deacon and member at the Boone Presbyterian Church and Collins Christian Church. David loved his family and studying the Bible and God's word, and he and Stella were sponsors of Youth for Christ.
David worked as a letter carrier for the U. S. Post Office, retiring on March 24, 1981. He had also worked at the Chevrolet assembly plant and had been a greeter at Wal-Mart in Raymore, MO, which he absolutely loved. He had also worked as a builder, constructing several churches and also worked for Overhead Door Company and at the Lake City ammunitions plant.
David was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, George and Charles Lester and two sisters, Hazel Lambert and Juanita Murray. He is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Stella, of the home; two daughters, Linda Jones and her husband, Richard, Overland Park, KS and Deborah Taylor and her husband, Travis, Belton, MO; two sisters, Dorothy Johnson, Panorama City, CA and Geneva Johnsen, Oceanside, CA; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
