David Eugene Herod, 65, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Monday, December 16, 2013 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler, Missouri. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 21 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Nashville Baptist Church Cemetery in Providence, Missouri.

David was born July 30, 1948 in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Carl David and Lula "Louise" (Acton) Herod. He grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and was a graduate of KCC Bible School in Overland Park, Kansas. He then attended Linn Tech Trade School in Linn, Missouri.

He and his mother moved to the Hope Church Camp in Peculiar, Missouri in 1978 and ran the camp for the next 30 years. He was a Boy Scout and an Honorary Warrior of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was a square dance caller and loved being silly at family gatherings. He was a member of the Belton Assembly of God and a dedicated leader of the Royal Rangers at the church.

David was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Linda Louise Herod. He is survived by his aunt, Betty Rippeto, Archie, Missouri; cousin and care-givers Charlotte and Raymond Scott, Independence, Missouri; other aunts, an uncle, cousins, relatives and friends.
