Obituary

Darrell W. Wilson, 85, of Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. Funeral services were held at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville on Friday, May 8, 2026. Burial, with military honors,  was held at the  Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, MO. The family suggests contributions to Federation for the Blind.

Darrell was born on August 22, 1940, in Clinton, MO, to Wayne Townsend and Ardith Jean (Hanna) Wilson. Darrell lived his life with a heartfelt dedication to his family and community. A proud member of the Army National Guard, Darrell served honorably as a mechanic from June 11, 1974, until his discharge on July 30, 2001. His commitment to service extended beyond the military; he was actively involved in organizations such as the VFW, American Legion, and Kiwanis Club, where he forged lifelong friendships and contributed to the well-being of his community.

On May 25, 1962, Darrell married the love of his life, Patricia Pope, in Kansas City, MO. Together, they built a beautiful family, with Darrell cherishing the roles of father and grandfather. Darrell dedicated over 20 years of service to the Cass County Zoning Department before retiring, all while remaining a lifelong resident of Cass County. His kind spirit, unwavering work ethic, and infectious laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia Wilson; grandson, D.J.; and great-grandson, Noel. He is survived by his children: Darrell (Suzie) Wilson of Butler, MO; Tricia (Bill) Lack of Windsor, MO; Michael (Catherine Catts) Wilson of Holden, MO; John (Cori) Wilson of Peculiar, MO; and April (Michael) Wilson of Kansas City, MO; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers: Carl (Phyllis) Wilson of Malabar, Florida; and Ronald Wilson of Clinton, MO; and sister, Sherry (David) Foreman, of Windsor, MO.
