Obituary

Claton F. Clevenger, 96, Harrisonville, MO, died Monday, June 4, 2007 at Crown Care Center, Harrisonville. Funeral services 3:00 P.M. Thursday, June 7 at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville. Friends may call 2:00-3:00 PM Thursday at the chapel. Burial in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Contributions may be made to Crown Care Resident Fund or to the Children's Love Fund at Children's Mercy Hospital.


Claton was born February 5, 1911 in New Hampton, Missouri, the son of Nathaniel and Julia (Smith) Clevenger. Claton grew up, and attended high school in New Hampton. He was a member of New Hampton Christian Church. Claton was united in marriage to Edna Mae Long in 1931 and to this union a son, William Dean was born. After Mae's death, Claton was married to Helen Marie Lovitt in 1940. To this union three children were born, Beverly Ann, C. F. Jr. (Cla) and Mary Lou. Claton farmed around New Hampton, later working as a mail handler for Union Station in Kansas City, MO. He moved to Pleasant Hill, MO in the late 1950's. He was married to Pauline Dodson Creek in 1963. In 1965 Clayton and Pauline moved to Iowa where he operated a tiling machine, putting in tile to drain farmland. He retired in 1985 at which time he moved to Belton, MO. He had lived in Harrisonville five years.


Claton was loved by all. He enjoyed playing with the grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.


Claton was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Myrle Whitaker and one grandson, Richard Murphy. Claton is survived by his wife, Pauline, Harrisonville, MO; two sons, Bill Clevenger and wife, Marie, Belton, MO and Cla Clevenger and wife, Eloise, Kansas City, MO; two daughters, Beverly Ann Byrd and husband, Don, Harrisonville, MO and Mary Lou Murphy and husband, Barry, Garden City, MO; one stepdaughter, Norma Hibner and husband, Raymond, Pleasant Hill, MO; one stepson, Don Creek and wife, Carol, Peculiar, MO; two sisters, Lola Edson, Rogers, Arkansas, and Mildred Smith, Bethany, MO; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
