Chrystal J. Atkins, 94, passed away at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Home in Belton, Missouri, on February 17, 2015, almost two years following a diagnosis of lung cancer. Visitation will be held at Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, Missouri on Monday, February 23rd at 11:00 AM with the memorial service to follow at 12:00 noon. Burial will take place at Adrian's Crescent Hill Cemetery.
Chrystal was born in Adrian, Missouri and resided in the Kansas City Metro area until she moved to Belton in 1994 following the death of her husband of 52 years, Edgar G. Atkins. The majority of Chrystal's working years involved serving the public as a waitress in several different restaurants. Chrystal also played a role in the couple's floor-sanding business (A & A Flooring). She and her husband shared many happy years together such as bowling, fishing at Osceola and Grand Lake, traveling, and gardening. Chrystal was a member of the Raymore Assembly Of God Church.
Chrystal was a kind and generous person, loved deeply by her family and many friends. She will be greatly missed by all.
Mrs. Atkins was preceded in death by her husband Edgar, parents Elsie and Sylvan Prettyman, brothers Roy and Sylvan, Jr., and sister Ola Mae Cushard. She is survived by nine nieces and nephews and their families: Richard Atkins (Gravois Mills, MO), Donald Cushard (Adrian, MO), Gayla Ekstrom (Parker, CO), Roy Lee Prettyman (Broken Arrow, OK), Barbara Ann Scavariel (Branson, MO), Carolyn Siler (Kansas City, KS), Gwendolyn Smith (Linwood, KS), Regina Smith (Kansas City, KS), and Karen Tatum (Independence, MO).
