Obituary

Charles "Charlie" Lee Moore, 93, Harrisonville, MO, died Thursday, February 14, 2019 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS.  Funeral services were held  Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bright Futures Backpack Program (check payable to the Harrisonville Public School Foundation with "BF Backpack Program" in the memo line).

Born in Harrisonville, Missouri on January 7, 1926 to Lonnie and Faye Moore, Charles Lee Moore was the oldest of six siblings.  He was born and raised on the family farm south of Harrisonville in the Lone Tree community.

Charlie attended grade school at Prospect Rural School #88 in Harrisonville and was a 1943 graduate of Harrisonville High School.  A year after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Force and was discharged in 1946.  After the USAAF, Charlie attended Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri where he played football.  In 1947, he started working for the Standard Pipeline Company in Freeman, MO.  In 1953, he met the love of his life, Joyce Evers, and they were married on December 5, 1954 in Harrisonville.

After working for the pipeline for 10 years, Charlie bought the welding shop in Harrisonville, Moore's Welding.  In 1976, he was contacted by Amoco to represent the company on a cross-country pipeline that was being laid from Beaumont, Texas to Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  Charlie continued to work for Amoco until his retirement in 1995 at the age of 69.

His years with Amoco took Charlie and Joyce on one adventure after another. When not working, Charlie's time was devoted to his family.  He enjoyed spending time at the lake, fishing, skiing, and being involved in the Harrisonville community with the Cass County Shrine Club, Grand River Masonic Lodge #276 in Freeman and the Cass County Elk's Lodge.  After his retirement, he and Joyce traveled across the country to watch the grandkids compete at youth rodeos where everyone knew him as "Papa".

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter, Charla Moore; son, Steve Moore (Lisa), grandson Charlie (Felicia), great grandson Layton, granddaughters Mattie and Josie; daughter, Marcia Milner (Scott), granddaughter Ashley Shrout, great grandsons Jackson and Trenton, granddaughter Lynsey McNeal (Mitchell), great grandson Brodie, great granddaughter Kennady; and granddaughter, Lauren Peterson (Derrick) and great grandson, Drake. Charlie was loved dearly by many nieces and nephews and always looked forward to their visits.
