Charles Clifton Raines, 71, Peculiar, MO, died Monday, July 14, 2008 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at the First Baptist Church, Peculiar, MO and at 1:00 PM on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the First Church of the Nazarene, Wister, OK. The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 PM Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, Peculiar. Burial in the Ellis Chapel Cemetery, Wister, Oklahoma. Charlie was born July 8, 1937 in Poteau, OK, the son of Earl A. and Erma L. (Ellis) Raines. He married Rolande Marcelle Piffant on October 6, 1988. He had lived in Kansas City, MO before moving to Peculiar in 1990.
Charlie was a Kansas City, MO police officer for over 26 years before retiring in 1990 as a detective in the AIU Division. He had served on the Sheriff's Department Possee in Jackson County and Cass County, MO. Charlie was a member and a deacon at the First Baptist Church in Peculiar.
Survivors include his wife, Rolande Raines, of the home; two daughters, Robbie Harrison, Kansas City MO and Dianna Heckman, Alabama; two step-daughters, Debbie Jones, Edmund, OK and Kathleen Cook, Valley Falls, KS; four brothers, Podie Meeks, Wister, OK, Guy Lutts, Dallas, TX, Robert Raines, Sherman, TX and Buddy Raines, California; seven sisters, Lavone Fenner, Poteau, OK, Bonnie Davis, Morton, IL, Wanda Evans, Marion, IL, Melba Ritter, Lagrange, IN, Shirley Drennon, Arizona, Wanda Boers, Hemet, CA and Martha Bussey, Moore, OK; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
