Charles
Morris
November 7, 1936 – May 5, 2026
Charles Cyrus "Chuck" Morris, 89, of Peculiar, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 16, 2026. at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. Burial, with military honors, was held in Wills Cemetery in Peculiar, MO.
Born on November 7, 1936, Chuck grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, before attending high school in Metz, MO. It was there that he met the love of his life, Dorothy Shrum. The two were wed on June 28, 1955, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned over 70 years. Shortly after their wedding, Chuck departed for his U.S. Air Force assignment in Germany; Dorothy joined him there following her graduation, marking the start of their many adventures together.
A dedicated serviceman, Chuck served as a Flight Engineer and Senior Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, flying C-130 and C-124 aircraft. His military career also included time with the National Guard and Air Force Reserves. Upon returning to the states, he was stationed at Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base. In 1964, Chuck built the family home in Peculiar, MO, where he and Dorothy remained for the rest of his life. Following his military retirement, Chuck continued his commitment to aviation as an Air Worthiness Flight Inspector with the FAA in New York and D.C. before returning home to Missouri.
Chuck was a man of many talents and deep faith. He was a pillar of the Peculiar United Methodist Church, serving as a trustee and active member. His passion for aviation stayed with him through his involvement with the Short Wing Piper Club and "Save-A-Connie" (Lockheed Constellation) at the Kansas City Airline History Museum. He was also an active member of the Heart of America Corvair Owners Association and served his community as a Boy Scout Master.
Known for his love of music, Chuck was always ready with a tune; if you whistled or sang a few notes, he would instantly complete the song. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life: fishing, boating, yard work, mechanical projects, and reading. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who cherished every moment spent with his family.
Chuck is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy; his children: Gary Morris (Dori), Tricia Plewa (Bill), and Cindy Anders; his grandchildren: Michelle Darby (Jimmy), John Plewa (Haley), Jessica Anders, and Skyler Morris; and his great-grandchildren: Sloan and Sutton Darby, and Walter and Sofia Plewa.
