Obituary

Charles M. George, 77, known to friends and family as Charlie George, of Harrisonville, Missouri and former Vice President of Production at the Kansas City Times/Star, passed away Thursday night at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City. Mr. George fought a courageous long term battle with lymphoma cancer.

Visitation will be held at the Atkinson Funeral Home at 600 W. Wall Street in Harrisonville, MO, Tuesday, June 28 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 29th. Burial in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.

Mr. George worked as Production Manager for The Times, Florence Alabama and was also Vice President of Production for the Clearwater Sun and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. Mr. George became the Production Manager for the Kansas City Times/Star from 1977-1982. He then moved on to Belleville, Illinois to consult and oversee production of the Belleville News Democrat, retiring in 1996. He was a pioneer in the newspaper industry for converting presses from "Hot Type" to plate, letterpress to "Di-Litho" and letterpress printing to offset conversions.

Since 1982 Mr. George has been the owner of Mid America Graphics, a leading Manufacturer and Re Manufacturer of Packaging Equipment for the Newspaper Industry. He also was the Co-Owner of Bowlers Pro Shop at the Premier Bowl in Raytown, Missouri. He was over the years a Stock Car Racer, a Go Cart Racer, Soap Box Derby enthusiast, Little League Football/Baseball Coach and an avid Tournament Bowler. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, golf, and virtually all sports especially when his children or grandchildren were involved.

Mr. George is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol Y. George, 6 children and spouses David & Kristi George, Chris & Linda George, Danny George, Donny & Jean George, Callie George & Kenneth Miller, Terri & Zac Weddle, Ann George, with 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, along with 5 sisters, Boodie & Butch Hunt, Rachael & Buddy Hinton, Sue Foxe, Dot Miles and Ellen Torbett. Charlie was born in Columbus, Georgia. His beloved parents and sister Betty preceded him in death.
