Chuck was born on July 12, 1933 in Olathe, Kansas, son of Charles and Virginia (Ott) Jones. He graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in the Class of 1951. During his youth, he worked at many odd jobs, whether it be cutting the grass, working at a grocery store or even delivering flowers.
After high school, Chuck enlisted in the United States Army. He spent 1953 through 1956 in the Army spending his time stationed at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas and Whittier, Alaska. Chuck was honorably discharged from the service in 1956.
After his time in the service, Chuck went back to school and completed a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Kansas in 1958. Chuck went to work for the WT Grant stores after graduating from college. While working for the Grant organization he would spend time in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Also during his time working at WT Grant, he met Jeneen J Ziebarth and they were married on March 17, 1962. To this union four children were born: Jeffrey, Jonathan, Julie and Janna.
In 1965, the family moved from Sheboygan, Wisconsin to Harrisonville, Missouri where Chuck purchased his first Ben Franklin Store. He operated this store until 1979. During his time in Harrisonville, Chuck also owned stores in Olathe Kansas, Butler Missouri and Kingman Kansas. During his time owning the Ben Franklin stores Chuck also spent time as a general contractor developing Lakeview Estates as well as operating a car wash and a fireworks stand in Harrisonville. In 1979, he decided it was time to start International Tours of Harrisonville Travel Agency and that is where he remained until his retirement in 2001 when he sold the travel agency and the building in which it was located. His time at the travel agency allowed Chuck to pursue his love of travel during which he and Jeneen visited six continents. Chuck never lost his love of travel and was planning his next trip to Mexico even during his most recent hospital stay.
Kevin Wood, former mayor of Harrisonville described Chuck in this way, "It would be hard to find a man who has spent more time in building the City of Harrisonville than Chuck Jones." On top of his investment in businesses in the Harrisonville community, he was quite involved in many other areas. Chuck served as Harrisonville City Councilman from 1968 – 1972, was a member of the Park Board for the same duration, Vice President and President of the Harrisonville School Board from 1973-1991, Mayor of Harrisonville from 1991 – 1993 and again from 1995 – 2001. He served as the VP of the Harrisonville Planning and Zoning Committee from 1985 – 2017 and TIF Chairman from 2004 to 2015. Aside from politics, Chuck was a member of Delta Sigma Pi, the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, Ararat Shrine and the Chamber of Commerce. He was an Eagle Scout, MicOsay Brave, and held his private pilot's license. He was a Deacon and member of the First Baptist Church in Harrisonville. Chuck not only leaves a legacy behind to his family and children, but to the community, and for that we will never be able to truly express how much he will be missed by all.
Chuck was preceded in death by his loving wife of almost 55 years, Jeneen; his brother, Gary Jones; and his son-in-law, Matthew Smith. He is survived by his children: Jeffrey (Connie), Jonathan (Jill), Julie (Mike), and Janna.
