Carolyn (Runnenburger) Hasek, 76, Harrisonville, Missouri, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at her home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville with visitation from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Saturday at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Harrisonville Animal Shelter.
Carolyn was born October 16, 1938 in Harrisonville, Missouri, the daughter of Frank Ernest (Jr.) and Mary B. (Haynes) Runnenburger. She was a 1956 graduate of Harrisonville High School, graduating as Valedictorian. She attended Stephens College in Columbia and then graduated in 1960 from Missouri University with a business degree. Carolyn met and married James Hasek while still in college. They then moved to Cabool and Mtn. Grove, MO. She enjoyed helping out at Jim's medical practice but both were anxious to start a family, which ultimately included 5 children. They were married for 15 years.
Upon returning to Harrisonville, Carolyn worked for Social Services as a case manager for 17 years. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, shopping, and driving the back roads of Missouri to observe wildlife. She had a knack for being able to converse with anyone she met and make them feel cared about. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, David Hasek, one brother, Frank Runnenburger and one sister, Sabra Peak. She is survived by two sons, Charles Hasek and wife, Melanie, Lee's Summit, Missouri and Brian Hasek and wife, Shauna, Harrisonville, Missouri; two daughters, Laura Holden and husband, Lance, Harrisonville, Missouri and Sarah Hasek, and husband Dan Dietz, Jr., Warrensburg, Missouri; 16 grandchildren, Amanda, Ashton, Anna, Alexandra, Cody, Briana, Brett, Brierly, Matthew, Andrew, Tony, Scott, Sabra, August, David, and George; and 4 great-grandchildren, Sam, Will, Andy, and Olivia; and a special nephew, Mike Peak and wife, Mary of Kansas City.
