Carl Robert Howell, 77, Harrisonville, MO, died Friday, March 6, 2009 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Harrisonville. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Fairview Cemetery in Bedford, Iowa. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, March 9 at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville. Masonic services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Monday at the chapel. Carl was born January 12, 1932 in Mt. Vernon, MO, the son of Floyd and Grace (Lake) Howell. He was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School. Carl had lived in Bedford, IA, where he met and married Shirley Ann Johnson on July 21, 1955. They lived in Clarence, MO and Jefferson City, MO before moving to Harrisonville 30 years ago.

Carl was an engineer for Sprint for 43 years before retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Cass Masonic Lodge No. 147 AF&AM in Harrisonville, Ararat Shrine, White Shrine and the Cass County Shrine Club. He was a member of the Harrisonville United Methodist Church and had been an alderman for the Harrisonville City Council for 10 years. Carl enjoyed golfing and tennis. Carl was a member of the National Guard.

Carl is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; one son, John Howell, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; one daughter, Carrie Sigman-Barger and her husband, Mike, Indianapolis, IN; one brother, John Howell, Midwest City, OK; one sister, Gladys Shockley, Mt. Vernon, MO and two grandchildren, Jason and Meaghan Sigman.
