Obituary

Carl Lee Harris, 79, Butler, MO passed early on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 surrounded by his family. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Adrian United Methodist Church with burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to the "Noisy Bucket" c/o the church.

Carl was born January 19, 1938 at his family's home near Urich, MO, the son of Hester (Caldwell) and Howard Harris. Carl graduated high school from Ballard, MO and finished his associate's degree in Warrensburg, MO. Never one to sit idle, Carl was employed at Western Electric in Lee's Summit, farming nights and weekends. His first love has always been farming, so after retiring with 25 years of service, he became a full-time cattleman.

Carl is known for his sense of humor, his kind and giving spirit, his sharp mind, his smile, and his ability to out-work just about anyone even in his 70's. He was fond of woodworking, building a complete dining room set, baby bassinet, rocking horses, and yard swings, to name just a few. He enjoyed cooking and grilling, and could be frequently found helping at a Cattlemen's Association event, or baking the dressing for the Adrian UMC turkey dinner.

Carl had an amazing mind, always wanting to learn new things and calculating large sums in his head. He enjoyed camping and fishing at Roaring River, taking in a show in Branson, growing a large garden, watching a Royal's game, and his favorite thing, sharing a funny story with friends and family. He also loved helping his family and community any way he could, and poured himself into fixing things at the church, leading a community organization, or helping a neighbor. His family described him as the backbone of the family, strong, sturdy, supportive, and always giving. His presence will be deeply missed.

Carl was preceded in death by his father, Howard Harris, mother, Hester (Caldwell) Harris, sister, Mary Kathryn (Kay Harris) Street, brother, Richard Dean Harris, wife, Marjorie Louise (Brown) Harris, and an infant son. He is survived by his wife, Rose (Rotert) Wainscott Harris, Butler, MO; two daughters, Marsha Pearson, Blue Springs, MO and Cheryl Pickett, Madison, MS; two sisters and a brother, Betty Jean Wilson, Salisbury, MO, Margaret Gipson, Mission, KS, and Kenneth Harris, Clinton, MO; four step-children, Tim Wainscott, Montrose, MO, Rick and Roger Wainscott, Butler, MO, and Tina Simmons, Butler, MO; 6 grandchildren, Christy and Derek Pearson, Blue Springs, MO, Aaron Pearson, Springfield, MO, Carissa Bailey, Decatur, AL, Aundrea Eilers, Des Moines, IA, and David Pickett, Huntsville, AL; 7 step- grandchildren, Nathaniel, Preston, Timber, Sheena, and Graham Wainscott, Butler, MO, Nick Askew, Olathe, KS, and Monica Simmons, Butler, MO; 6 great-grandchildren, Molly, Xavier, Davon, and Trenton Pearson, Blue Springs, MO, Jackson and Jovie Pearson Springfield, MO; and 5 step-great-grandchildren, Brynlee, Blaise, Macie and Maxston Wainscott, Butler, MO and Addison Askew, Olathe, KS.
