Calvin Lee Gorsage Jr., 73, of Archie, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at Belton Regional Medical Center in Belton, MO. Funeral services were held on Monday, December 16, 2024 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO. Interment in the Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, MO. Memorial contributions are suggested to Freeman Cemetery in Calvin's name.
Calvin was born on December 28, 1950 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Calvin and Josephine Marie (Fangrow) Gorsage. Calvin grew up with an unwavering spirit that he carried throughout his life. A proud member of the Cass Midway High School Class of 1970, he embraced the values of hard work and community from an early age. On June 5, 1971, Calvin married his cherished wife, Lorena "Dee" Anderson, at her family home in Freeman, MO. Their love story blossomed as they moved to Archie, MO, in February 1972, where they created a warm and loving home together.
Calvin dedicated much of his life to construction work, contributing his skills in various roles. He served as a cook at Harvest House in Harrisonville and worked for BOP Leeds in Kansas City and Starlite Trailers in Archie, but it was at Church & Dwight in Harrisonville where he found his calling as a forklift operator, retiring after years of dedicated service. Even beyond his jobs, Calvin remained a committed and hardworking farmer, raising cattle and nurturing the land with pride. Calvin was also a valued member of the UAW Union, demonstrating his commitment to supporting his fellow workers and the principles of solidarity in the workplace. He was known for his kindness, strong work ethic, and the joy he brought to those around him.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Evelyn, Carol, and Emma; and one brother, Frank. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Dee, of the home; his son, Andy Gorsage (Brenda) of Drexel, MO; his daughter, Marilyn Carver (Mark) of Drexel, MO; sister, Arlene Welch (James) of Freeman, MO; brothers: Ron Gorsage (Betty Jo) of Freeman, MO, and Dan Gorsage (Brenda) of Freeman, MO; brothers-in-law: Bob Chamness and Don Davidson; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Gorsage; six grandchildren: Devin Gorsage, Izabell Carver, Dalton Carver, Eva Carver, Bret Hettinger (Samantha), and Britanni Nichols (Justin); four great-grandchildren: Kolbi, Kennedi, Kinsley, and Kash; and many nieces, nephews, and their families. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
