"Bud" Howard Leland Russell, 83, Independence, MO, died Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville, MO with visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 10580 Barkley, Suite 400, Overland Park, KS 66212.
Bud was born September 3, 1927 in Harrisonville, MO, the son of Walter Howard "Tat" and Anna Elizabeth (Garten) Russell. He was a 1945 graduate of Harrisonville High School.
Bud worked in the family dairy and the bowling alley and the skating rink in Harrisonville before moving to Independence. He worked for Phillip's 66 Propane and then for Pepsi for 21 years before retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Maywood Baptist Church in Independence.
Bowling and baseball were his love, as well as watching his kids and grandkids participating in all of their activities.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Betty Wilmoth and Barbara Jane Proctor, one brother, Jack Russell, a stillborn daughter and his first wife, Genevieve (Kitterman ) Russell. He is survived by his wife, Wilmina "Mina" Russell, of the home; four sons, Ronald Russell, Blue Springs, MO, Dennis Russell, Independence, MO, Donald Russell, Woodland Hills, CA, Kevin Russell, Blue Springs, MO; four daughters, Joyce George, Kansas City, MO, Mary Mason, Independence, MO, Diana Anaya, Big Bear, CA, Donna DeAngeles, Woodland Hills, CA; one brother, Robert "Bob" Russell, Raymore, MO; his second wife, Bessie Hartshorn, Victorville, CA; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
