Obituary

Bradley B. Jones, age 72, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026, in Tacoma, Washington. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, at St Luke’s Hospital on December 16, 1953, to the late Edward Samuel Jones and Jean Henrietta Boswell. Brad grew up in Harrisonville, MO, and throughout his life he remained close with a group of childhood buddies. He always looked forward to their reunions, relishing the chance to catch up and share a laugh with the friends who knew him best. A proud Jayhawk, Brad graduated from the University of Kansas in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism. During his time at KU, he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, where he formed lifelong friendships and honed the social spirit he was known for. He went on to pursue a career in law, obtaining his Juris Doctorate from the Seattle University School of Law in 1979. He practiced law in the greater Seattle area until his retirement in 2020. Throughout his life, Brad remained deeply engaged in politics, dedicating his time and energy to progressive causes and was a firm believer in social justice.

Brad’s personality was as vibrant as his record collection. He was a great lover of music, known to break into an air guitar solo at any given moment, and made sure to impart his vast musical knowledge and good taste to his children. This wisdom extended to a encyclopedic memory of sports; he was a walking record book who could recall stats and stories with ease. His sense of humor was a signature trait, ranging from dry to silly depending on the day—and he was affectionately known as "Rad Dad Brad" or "Mad Dad Brad," depending entirely on whether he’d eaten before getting stuck in the ferry line.

A dedicated and always supportive father, Brad was a constant fixture at his children’s school activities, rarely missing a game or performance. Whether he was cheering from the sidelines or coaching, his kindness and presence were constant, and he remained his children’s greatest advocate and friend through every stage of their lives. With an easygoing spirit and a kind heart, Brad was a reassuring presence to all who knew him, remaining steady through every high and low.

He was an avid reader with a deep appreciation for history, art and film, and was allegedly working on recording his life stories—the pages of which his family hopes to find someday. At home, he loved the simple pleasures of growing tomatoes and enjoying a great meal. Being a Kansas City boy at heart, he was a connoisseur of BBQ, and he loved a good Italian place above all else. Brad also had a deep-seated wanderlust; he was a seasoned traveler, having explored many places across multiple continents, yet he was perhaps happiest on the open road with his dog Charlie by his side.

Brad was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved brother, Stephen Edward Jones. Brad is survived by his devoted children, Anna Christine Jones and Nathan Edward Jones; his dear friend and former spouse, Carol Fluharty Jones; a sister, Pamela (Gene) Spinelli; a sister-in-law, Gail Jordan-Jones; nieces and nephews: Stephanie Jones Hove, Kimberly Jones Thompson, Michelle Spinelli McGraw, Michael Spinelli, Trevor Schraufnagel, and Kelsey Schraufnagel Ballantyne; along with, grandnieces and grandnephews: Henry and Olivia Hove, Carly and Will Thompson, Ellie and William McGraw; and Ava Spinelli; and his cousins: Patricia Collins Byall, Barbara Collins Kenton, and Bruce B. Collins.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Franke Tobey Jones for the care and comfort they provided Brad in his final weeks.

A celebration of Brad’s life will be held at a later date. The family will make friends and loved ones aware of the arrangements once they are finalized. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Foundation for Melanoma Research, Rett Syndrome Foundation, or Old Dog Haven in Oak Harbor, WA.
