Obituary

Billy Wayne Moore, 80, Harrisonville, MO, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville with visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville. Billy had been a life-long area resident born on the family farm near Lone Tree on his mother's birthday January 30, 1931 to Lonnie and Faye Moore. He loved his life growing up with his brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, and neighbors. Billy graduated from Harrisonville High School in 1949 with his future wife, Pete, and many close friends. In high school he participated in every area of sports and competed at the state level in pole vaulting.

He began work as a carpenter, working for his future father-in-law, George Eavey, and eventually started his own general contracting business building many homes and buildings in the Harrisonville area as well as general contractor for Anaconda-Ericsson Wire and Cable and United Telephone. He also was the owner of Pete's Machine and Fabrication and enjoyed farming and raising cattle. Billy was an avid gardener and had better than average skills in hunting, fishing, trap shooting and golf. He was president for many years of the Harrisonville Golf Association.

Billy had been a member of the Harrisonville Volunteer Fire Department, Cass Masonic Lodge and Cass County Shrine Club, First Christian Church, Twin Pines Country Club and served as president of the Orient Cemetery Association. For the last several years, Billy was a devoted member of a local pitch card-playing group meeting at Twin Pines and the Harrisonville Community Center.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Ann "Pete" Eavey Moore in 1989; his parents, a brother, Kenny and sister, Betty and stepson, Brett Milner. He is survived by his wife, Ginger, Harrisonville, MO; a daughter, Georgiann Manz and husband, Tom, Blue Springs, MO; a son, Billy Moore II and wife, Debbie, Harrisonville, MO; three beloved grandchildren, Carrie Manz Friedline, Andrew Manz and Rebecca Moore Jones and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Charles L. Moore, Harrisonville, MO and Lloyd Moore, Durango, CO; sister, Mary Voelkel, Jasper, IN; stepson, Scott Milner and wife, Marcia, of Harrisonville, MO, three step-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
