Obituary

Bill Henry Kirk, 77, Raymore, Missouri, died Monday, October 29, 2012 at Golden Years Care Center in Harrisonville, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 1 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville with visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville, following the service. Flowers may be sent to the Atkinson Chapel or donations may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Mid-America Chapter, 6811 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Suite 202, Cloverleaf Building 1, Shawnee Mission, KS 66202.

Bill was born at home on February 10, 1935 in Camp Branch Township, Cass County, Missouri, the son of Walter Oliver and Ethel Pearl (Huey) Kirk. He married Dixie Lou Atkinson on January 21, 1965 at the United Methodist Church in Peculiar, Missouri. He had lived in Raymore since 1974. Bill worked for G&K Linen Supply in Kansas City, Missouri for 30 years before retiring in 1995.

Bill always loved family gatherings and loved his grandchildren and nieces and nephews numbering over 60 when combined. He enjoyed building things with wood. Bill and his family traveled extensively throughout the United States in their mobile home. He especially enjoyed fishing with his daughter Kimberly, and summer camping and boating trips to Truman State Park. Favorite vacation memories were when he and Dixie traveled to the Bahamas and dove in a submarine to view the ocean life and even travelled to the edge of a Black Hole. They also enjoyed their trips to Europe and Hawaii and Alaska. His favorite possession was his 1923 Ford Model T, which he frequently drove with his family in parades.

Bill was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Raymore, and was a key participant in building the new church building. He was also active in Raymore Betterment Association. Bill was a U. S. Korean War Army Veteran.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Dixie, of the home; two daughters, Kimberly Alexander, of Columbia, Missouri and Linda Dean, of Raymore, Missouri. Also living are one sister, Viola Weddington Wieberg, of Harrisonville Missouri, and three brothers, James "Jim" Richard Kirk and Bob Ray Kirk, both of Harrisonville, Missouri and Johnie J. Kirk of Deep Gap, South Carolina; 4 grandchildren, Jesseca and Samantha Alexander, and Brian and Greg Dean, and one great-grandson, Linden Dean.
