Beverly Joyce Eiffert, 79, Harrisonville, MO, died Friday, July 24, 2009 in Harrisonville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 30 at the Atkinson Chapel, Harrisonville. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wed. July 29 at the chapel.
Burial will be at 4:00 P.M. Thursday at La Plata City Cemetery, La Plata, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Memorial & Tribute Processing Center, PO Box 1653, Topeka, KS 66601-1653.
Beverly was born May 20, 1930, in La Plata, Missouri, the daughter of Ivan and Margery Sweesy Waters. She graduated valedictorian from La Plata High School in 1948. She then attended and graduated from Chillicothe Business College. She obtained employment as a stenographer with the CB And Q Railroad, and she went to Chicago where she lived, along with her sister Evelyn, until 1950.
Beverly married Leon Eiffert, also of La Plata, in May, 1950. Soon they settled in Harrisonville and made it their home for the remainder of their lives.
During her life in Harrisonville she was a dedicated wife and mother, a secretary,
and worked for 20 years as a probate division clerk for Cass County Missouri.
Beverly had been a member of the Girl Scouts of America since childhood, and she continued as a troop leader during the '60's. She taught many young girls of Harrisonville valuable life skills. She often recalled these times, especially enjoying the hikes and camp-outs.
Among her many interests were reading, doing crossword puzzles, and playing bridge with her friends. Also, she loved fishing at the Lake of the Ozarks, and spending time there with her family at the Eiffert cabin. In addition, Beverly loved genealogy, and was considered the expert whenever there were questions about the family history.
Her classmates and friends in La Plata were very special to her, and she enjoyed going to reunions and keeping in touch with them. Arizona was another place she loved, and she talked often of the good times she spent there with Leon and friends.
Beverly was a member of the Presbyterian Church of La Plata from her childhood until she moved to Harrisonville in 1950. From that time on she was a member of the United Methodist Church in Harrisonville.
Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Leon. She is survived by her
her sister, Evelyn Carlier, Champaign, Illinois; daughters Debbie (Keith) Smith, Gladstone, MO, Lee Anne (Larry) Yach, Carrollton, TX and son Kenton (Jackie) Eiffert, Bakersfield CA; her grandchildren, Aaron Kelly (Valerie) Smith, Colorado Springs, CO; Lauren and Lindsey Yach, Los Angeles, CA; Kristen, Beth and Brett Eiffert, Bakersfield, CA; and her great-grandchildren, Alanna and Rylee Smith, Colorado Springs.. She had many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss her, as well as a multitude of wonderful friends.
