Obituary

Betty Lee (Skinner) Stenstrom, 89, Adrian, MO, passed away peacefully Monday, July 1, 2019 at Adrian Manor in Adrian, MO.  Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 201 West Atkinson, Butler, MO.  A commemorative service will bewas held at the main chapel at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, KS.  Betty will be laid to rest with her husband, Carl, who was a WWII veteran, honorably discharged from the U.S. Army as a Captain.  Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Betty was born October 3, 1929 in Fort Worth, TX, to Edward Lee and Elizabeth (Crawford) Skinner.  She married Carl Russell Stenstrom in 1950, a marriage of 58 years, which brought into this world four children.  She spent most of her life living and raising a family in south Kansas City, MO, moving to Adrian in 2006.  Betty was a graduate of Rosedale High School in Kansas City, KS.  She attended the University of Kansas, earning a bachelor's degree in Home Economics.  She later received her teaching certificate through UMKC.  She worked in food service and catering for many years through several well-known establishments in the Kansas City area.  In addition to her deep love of family, her culinary expertise and vast collection of cookbooks are extraordinary.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Edward Skinner, and her husband, Carl.  She is survived by her four children, Paul Stenstrom, Tarpon Springs, FL, David Stenstrom and wife, Maxine, Pine Mountain Club, CA, John Stenstrom, Kansas City, MO, and Karin (Stenstrom) Lentz and husband, Duane, Adrian, MO; six grandchildren, Erika (Stenstrom) Jefferies and husband, Scott, Frisco, TX, Catherine Lentz, Adrian, Crystal (Lentz) Dodds and husband, Cody, Peculiar, MO, Kirsten (Stenstrom) Soares and husband, Renan, Largo, FL, Ilona (Stenstrom) Franz and husband, Dr. Doug Franz, Tampa, FL, Rebekah Stenstrom, Tarpon Springs, FL; one brother-in-law, Jerry Stenstrom, St. Augustine, FL; three nephews and one niece.
