Ben M. Cole, 79, Archie, Missouri, died Friday, March 6, 2015 in Hemphill, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2015 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in Dayton Cemetery, Dayton, Missouri. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 12 at the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville. Ben was born August 4, 1935 in Cash, Arkansas, the son of Walter Owen and Katherine Orean (Lashlee) Cole. He attended school in Bald Knob, Arkansas. He married Catherine Yeary on September 18, 1982, in Harrisonville.
Ben moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1955 and was united in marriage with Kitty Jane Briden in 1957. This marriage blessed them with 3 daughters. The family moved to Harrisonville in 1970. Ben opened and operated the Cass Counyt Color Center in 1979 in Harrisonville until he sold the business and retired in 2007. He owned and operated Ben Cole Painting for over 40 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of Ararat Shrine, Cass County Shrine Club, Grand River Masonic Lodge No. 276, Freeman, Missouri. Ben attended Church of Christ in Butler, Missouri. Ben loved spending time with his family, he had a great sense of humor and a story for everything. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, collecting Studebakers, raising cattle, getting a good deal on something, attending all grandchildren's activities, spending his winter in Texas, he loved feeding people and hosting a fish fry for any special occasion.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Bill. He is survived by his wife, Catherine, Archie, Missouri; three daughters, Lynn Lee and husband Mark, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Tina Mattingley and husband Jerry, Garden City, Missouri and Julie Lewis and husband Jackson, Raymore, Missouri; stepdaughter, Sandra L. Schifman, Stillwell, Kansas; stepson, John David Wheat, Tucson, Arizona; one brother, Troy Cole, Harrisonville, Missouri; two sisters, Virginia Campbell and husband Milous, Batesville, Arkansas and Betty Cole-LaPietra, Amelia Island, Florida; 12 grandchildren, Chris, Rebecca, Adam, Ethan, Jacob, J. D., Alicia, Matt, Nick, Gracee, Amelia, and H. Adam; and 6 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
