Arteela Mae Mickelson, 96, Lee's Summit, MO, passed away Monday, September 21, 2009 at Wilshire at Lakewood in Lee's Summit. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville with visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Burial in Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, MO. Arteela was born June 1, 1913 in East Lynne, MO, the daughter of James D. and Ellen E. (Dillon) Selvy. She graduated from East Lynne High School. Arteela married Walter E. Mickelson on July 31, 1931. Their only son, Neil, was not born until 1944. Arteela worked at Lake City Armory during WWII and later retired from the Bendix Corporation as a precision welder. Arteela was well known for her fried chicken, cherry pie and sweet disposition.
Arteela was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter, her son, Neil J. Mickelson, brothers, Garland Selvy and Olen Selvy and sisters, Sarah Areta Johnson and Amy Pinnell. She is survived by a sister, Maxine Phillips and a brother, David Selvy, both of Concordia, MO; daughter-in-law, Sharon Mickelson, Belton, MO; granddaughter, Kristine Roudebush (Jeff); stepgrandson, Darren Schwindt (Vicki); four great-grandchildren; special niece, Patricia Driver and a host of other nieces and nephews.
