Obituary

Alma Blanche Arndt, 97 of Adrian, MO died Friday, May 21, 2010 at Adrian Manor in Adrian. Funeral serivces will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at the Adrian Christian Church in Adrian with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian. Memorial contributions may be made to the Adrian Christian Church or to Adrian Manor Culture Fund.

Alma was born in Union Star, MO on February 17, 1913 to Edward Edwin Stucki and Viola Pearl Rouch Stucki. When Alma was five years old the family moved to a farm west of Adrian, MO. Her mother and five siblings came down in a covered wagon while her father rode the train with the livestock. Alma later graduated from the 8th grade from the Hess school west of Adrian.

Alma married Gustav Warner Arndt on October 23, 1935. Three children were born into this union, Gustav Edward, Donald Duane and Judith Darlene. They spent most of their married life on a farm east of Adrian. She was widowed in October 1958 with two children left at home and never remarried. She worked at the Adrian school cafeteria until she leased and operated the snack shop at Nichols Lanes in Adrian. Alma opened her own restaurant named Alma's Café which she operated for many years. She leased the new Homestead restaurant in Adrian and operated it until 1972. Then, Alma worked at Yoss Thriftway until retirement in 1985. She was a long time member of the Adrian Christian Church.

Alma is mostly remembered for her kindness and her ability to laugh and be joyful. She will always be remembered for her cooking, especially her pies and cinnamon rolls.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Viola Hill and Dorothy Maloney; three brothers, Elmer, Marvin and Loen; and two grandchildren, Lea Ann Arndt and Donna Sue Arndt. She is survived by her son Gustav (Ed) Edward Arndt and wife Darlene of Adrian, MO; Donald Duane Arndt and wife Etta Sue of Adrian, MO; and Judith Darlene Arndt Shubert and husband Claude Dale of Eagle, Idaho; nine grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren; many nephews, nieces and a multitude of friends.
