Albert Inman Downey, Jr., 82, Cleveland, MO, passed away Monday, October 21, 2019 at his home.  Visitation was held Thursday, October 24 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO.  Graveside services were held at Friday, October 25 at the Rothville Cemetery in Rothville, MO.

Al was born October 24, 1936 in Sumner, MO, the youngest son of Albert Inman Downey, Sr. and Lillian Marie (Thomas) Downey.  He moved to Kansas City as a young man from Sumner.  He had lived in Belton, MO before moving to Cleveland.  He married Sandra Moxley on May 12, 1959.

Al worked as a painter and foreman for several years with Vendo Company in Kansas City.  He then obtained employment for a landscaping company, later starting his own landscaping design business, Downey Landscaping, which operated for 30 years in the Kansas City area.  He later took a delivery driver job for W. C. Tingle.

Al was proud of his rural roots, receiving his formal education in a one-room school house in the years immediately following the great depression.  He enjoyed the outdoor life, was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, a way of life that started for him as a very young child.  He was well known for his gardening, just for his own enjoyment and sharing with everyone.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Sandra, on February 14, 2001, one sister, Pauline Alberta (Downey) Clarkson, one nephew, Wayne Clarkson of Sumner, MO and one brother, Charles Pete Downey, also of Sumner.  He leaves behind his daughter, Dianna (Downey) Funk, Cleveland, MO; his son, Scott Allan Downey, Belton, MO; two granddaughters, Heather (Funk) Fielder (Brian), Cleveland, and Kylie Marie Funk, Peculiar, MO; three great-grandchildren, Justin Michael Fielder, Belton, MO, Gareth Daniel Ford, Peculiar, and Nicole McMullen, Peculiar.

Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa (Papa), and Friend, will always be missed and loved.
