Dr. A. R. "Rod" May, III, 59, Pleasant Hill, Missouri, died Monday, January 7, 2013 at Cass Regional Medical Center in Harrisonville, Missouri. No services are scheduled. (Cremation).

Dr. May was born June 8, 1953 in Independence, Missouri, the son of the late Capt. A. R. May, Jr. and June (Henderson) May, Harrisonville. He grew up in Independence, Missouri and was a 1971 graduate of Truman High School. He graduated from William Jewel and medical school at Kansas City Osteopathic College. He worked as an ER physician at Cass Regional Medical Center from 1989 until his retirement in February, 2011, and was also a Medical Director at the hospital from 1997 until his retirement. He was a former EMS Medical Director of several local EMS and fire departments and had served as the Cass County Medical Examiner.

Dr. May was preceded in death by his father in 1997 and one sister, Marsha Bean in 2008. He is survived by his wife, Jo Anne May of the home; his mother, June May, Harrisonville, Missouri; stepson, Richie Hawley and his wife, Jennifer, Freeman, Missouri and granddaughters, Katelynn Hawley and Chaurie Stroud; brother-in-law, Dr. John Bean, Kansas City, Missouri; nieces, Dr. Melissa Leimkuehler and husband, Jesse and children of Kansas City, Missouri and Dr. Marchelle Giannini and husband, Tom and children of Baltimore, Maryland; his daughters, Dr. Malia Beckwith of New Jersey and Marji May of Kansas City, Missouri.
