Oleta Geraldine (Tarter) Emick, 86, Warrensburg, Missouri, died Saturday, March 23, 2013 at St. Luke's East in Lee's Summit, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 28 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in Raymore Cemetery, Raymore, Missouri. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Atkinson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Oleta was born September 5, 1926 in Benton County, Missouri, the daughter of Noble D. and Mary E. (Sanford) Wheeler. She married Ernest L. Tarter and they had four boys.
Oleta loved to crochet and she enjoyed playing music, auto racing and spending time with her grandchildren. Oleta worked at the Town Topic Restaurant in Kansas City, Missouri for 40 years, where she worked as a waitress and fry cook. After Ernest’s death, Oleta met and married Virgil “Bud” Emick.
Oleta was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Ernest Tarter and Bud Emick, two sons, Gerald L. Tarter and Terry W. Tarter, a daughter-in-law, Mary L. Tarter and four brothers, Bill Wheeler, Morris Ray Wheeler, Orland W. “Skeet” Wheeler and Iris Lynn Wheeler. She is survived by two sons, Ray Wheeler and his wife, Anita and Charlie Tarter, all of Harrisonville, Missouri; two brothers, Paul Wheeler and his wife, Marianne, Appleton City, Missouri and Norville Wheeler of Northern Missouri; one sister, Anna Lee Witty of Texas; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
